Certain life events can affect your Novant Health benefits. See what actions to take and what to keep in mind as you navigate life’s changes. If you have a qualifying life event, benefit changes must be made in your benefit enrollment system within 31 days.

New child
(birth, adoption, or foster)
  • Review the company’s leave policies. Visit I-Connect, policies and procedures and then document manager to search.
  • Notify your manager about the timing of your leave.
  • Call the Hartford Leave Administration at 800-549-6514 to begin processing your leave.
  • Review Novant Health's benefit programs you may want to take advantage of, such as a Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (DCFSA).
  • Get a Social Security number for your new child, if an application has not yet been submitted.
  • Add your new child to your benefits coverage and make any other applicable benefit changes within 31 days of birth or adoption or placement in your home.
  • Consider updating your life insurance beneficiary information in your enrollment system, Infor HR.
  • Consider updating your retirement plan beneficiary information.
  • Update your tax withholdings in your enrollment system, Infor HR.
  • Update your will. Get assistance from MetLife.
  • Notify and clear through Employee Occupational Health before you return to work.
  • Complete any required return to work forms.

Getting married
  • Update your personal information, if necessary, in your enrollment system, Infor HR.
  • If you’re changing your name, get a new Social Security card.
  • Order new business cards and new corporate credit cards, if necessary.
  • Change or update your benefits coverage within 31 days.
  • Update your life insurance beneficiary information in your enrollment system, Infor HR.
  • Update your retirement plan beneficiary information.
  • Update your tax withholdings in your enrollment system, Infor HR.
  • Update your direct deposit, if necessary, in your enrollment system, Infor HR.
  • Update your will. Get assistance from MetLife.

Getting divorced
(or legally separated)

  • Update your will. Get assistance from MetLife, if needed.
  • Access free, confidential counseling through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Death in the family
  • Access free, confidential counseling through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Review the company’s bereavement and personal leave policies in document manager. Visit I-Connect, policies and procedures and then document manager to search.
  • Change or update your benefits coverage within 31 days.
  • Contact the Social Security Administration to end benefits received by the deceased (if disabled or retired) and to determine if benefits are available to the surviving spouse and dependent children.
  • Submit life insurance claims if you are the beneficiary. Call the People & Culture Solution Center for life insurance information and to file a claim.
  • Update life insurance beneficiary information in your enrollment system, Infor HR, if necessary.
  • Update your retirement plan beneficiary information, if necessary.
  • Update your tax withholdings in your enrollment system, Infor HR.
  • Update your direct deposit, if necessary, in your enrollment system, Infor HR.
  • Update your will. Get assistance from MetLife, if needed.
